Wesley Snipes has had a rollercoaster of a career. He hit the highest of highs during the 90s when he became a bona fide action star and even parlayed that into a popular comic book character on screen. But the recent years for the actor haven’t drawn quite the same type of success when it comes to the box office. For even a dip in popularity, he can put a feather in his viewership cap. Right now Wesley Snipes has one of the most popular movies on Netflix.

Wesley Snipes and Cut Throat City are currently moving back and forth between the first and second slot in the Netflix ratings. On Friday they were number one, just dropping to number two on Saturday behind Jason Statham’s Homefront which just took over the top spot. Anthony Mackie’s Outside the Wire is sitting at three making action movies reign supreme on the streaming platform. Check out the trailer for Cutthroat City here:

The flick is Cut Throat City is a heist film set in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Four friends are struggling financially to recover from the city’s devastation and just their own sense of disenfranchisement within their current situations. As a *solution* they convince themselves, out of desperation, to rob a casino. It doesn’t go down as planned and they are forced to flee out of the city to the home of one of the crew’s shut-in father (played by Wesley Snipes). In all, the flick is a fast-paced and tough one about the struggles to climb out of poverty and the length young folks might go if they feel like they don’t have any other choice.

Joining Wesley Snipes in the cast of Cut Throat City is a group of up and coming actors with some well-known folks as well. The foursome consists of Shameik Moore (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as Miles), Demetrius Shipp Jr (All Eyez on Me)  Denzel Whitaker (Black Panther), and Keean Johnson (Midway). Other notables in the cast include T.I. and Ethan Hawke.

Cut Throat City is directed by Rza in his third turn sitting in the big chair. He also helmed Love Beats Rhymes and The Man With the Iron Fists. And to go along with the solid streaming numbers, it’s faring well with critics as well. The movie is sitting at 70% on the Rotten Tomatometer with critics praising the acting turns from the younger crew as well as the more mature turn from Wesley Snipes. Additionally, critics thought the New Orleans’ setting, sense of desperation among the younger folks, and the overall dynamics of the film played really well on screen.

A Wesley Snipes film is now one of the most popular movies streaming over on Netflix and may have been totally overlooked.

This film isn’t the only chance to catch Welsey Snipes on Netflix right now. Passenger 57 and his iconic line, “Always bet on black” just started streaming a couple of weeks ago. There’s plenty of chances to see the dude in a variety of roles. So head on over to Netflix and check this one out because plenty of others have been as well.
