One of the biggest surprises in the recent season finale of The Mandalorian was – SPOILER ALERT – the shocking return of Luke Skywalker. The de-aged CGI version of Skywalker took out a group of Dark Troopers and took Grogu – aka Baby Yoda – to train him in the Force. While Mark Hamill didn’t play Skywalker this time around, he did provide the voice for the big cameo. But now that Skywalker has Grogu, a new rumor is suggesting that we might not have seen the last of Skywalker in The Mandalorian.

The rumor comes from We Got This Covered, who is reporting that gossip writer Daniel Richtman has said on his Patreon page that Luke Skywalker will make a return. Even though Skywalker’s appearance certainly felt like a cameo, there’s no telling where the story will go now that Skywalker and Grogu are together. Richtman also doesn’t specify that we’ll see Skywalker return on The Mandalorian, but rather, that we haven’t seen the last of him. All of this should be taken with a grain of salt, since it seems like Richtman might just be guessing here, and also since just a few weeks ago, he said Sebastian Stan would play Skywalker in an upcoming Mandalorian cameo.

This recently concluded season of The Mandalorian was packed with cameos from throughout the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian Season Two saw the return of Boba Fett, who was thought to have died in Return of the Jedi. This season also presented the live-action debuts of animated characters like Bo-Katan Kryze and Ahsoka Tano. Yet the finale’s cameo from Luke Skywalker is certainly the biggest cameo the series has had thus far.

With the Star Wars television universe expanding greatly on Disney+, there are certainly plenty of opportunities for Luke Skywalker and other classic Star Wars characters to make appearances. Season Two of The Mandalorian concluded with the reveal that a new original series, entitled The Book of Boba Fett would be released on December 2021. Jon Favreau has stated that this series is separate from The Mandalorian Season 3, even though The Mandalorian is also scheduled to release in December as well.

Disney recently announced a ton of new Star Wars series, many of which will center around older characters returning. Several of these series will also be Mandalorian spinoffs, including Ahsoka and the mysterious Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic, both of which are supposed to merge with The Mandalorian into a major series-unifying event. It’s unclear if The Book of Boba Fett will now also be part of that now as well, or if Luke Skywalker and other older characters might return in these series also.

While it sounded like Disney was closing the Skywalker Saga with The Rise of Skywalker, the recent appearance of Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian makes it seem like Disney might have changed their minds. With characters like Skywalker and Boba Fett returning, as well as Lando Calrissian and Obi-Wan Kenobi getting their own shows, it seems that no matter how large the galaxy might be, Disney really wants to focus on the old favorite characters.
