The Book of Boba Fett is headed our way on Disney plus next December. The final scenes of a post-credits teaser in the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian set up a big story for everyone’s favorite bounty hunter. But what exactly could this new show actually be about? We will use the little tease we got as well as some other information we’ve been privy to in order to suss out exactly what to expect from The Book of Boba Fett.
How Long Will The Book Of Boba Fett Be?
According to Small Screen, The Book of Boba Fett will be a miniseries on Disney+ consisting of four episodes. Some people were confused and thought that this would be substituting the third season of The Mandalorian. Instead, it looks like The Mandalorian will begin its third season either right after this miniseries airs or very shortly afterward.
All We Know About The Book Of Boba Fett
The ending of The Mandalorian showed Boba Fett returning to Jabba’s Palace and he was greeted by none other than Bib Fortuna, Jabba’s old right-hand man. It looks like Bib had taken control of Jabba’s criminal empire and was living the high life. That’s apparent from the amount of weight he has put on since we last saw him in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.
Bib seemed surprised to see Boba Fett alive and attempted to supplicate himself to the bounty hunter, but Boba seemed less than interested in a friendly reunion. He killed big ol’ Bib and assumed his place on Jabba’s throne. This seems to imply that Boba Fett will now be the leader of a large criminal syndicate with Fennec Shand as his second-in-command.
So the most logical place to go from here as far as The Book of Boba Fett is concerned is seeing how the bounty hunter becomes an underworld king, right? Well, yes and no. The very title of the show suggests that we will be getting a definitive story that will finally “write the book” on one of Star Wars‘ most mysterious and elusive figures. Other than his appearances in this recent season of The Mandalorian, we really have not seen a whole bunch of Boba Fett’s story after his father was killed in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. He’s only appeared as a faceless bounty hunter until this season. And there is a lot more to learn about his character.
A big question that The Book of Boba Fett will assuredly address is just how Boba survived and escaped the sarlacc pit on Tatooine. We only got a few tiny hints at how he lived in the Season 2 premiere of The Mandalorian, but fans have been eager to see how he made it through that seemingly inescapable death trap for almost forty years. If this new show is going to write the definitive story on Boba Fett, it is certain that showing this escape will be one of its biggest points. Heck, we even bet it might be in the first episode of the show!
The Book of Boba Fett is also likely to show us that big gap of time between Boba being a child after the death of his father and when he shows up in Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back. Seeing exactly how he became the infamous bounty hunter that everyone in the galaxy is afraid of seems like the most obvious route for The Book of Boba Fett to take. It is a huge swath of time that has yet to be canonically established in the Star Wars universe.
We now know that The Book of Boba Fett will be set within the timeline of The Mandalorian and will star Temeura Morrison as the titular bounty hunter. Ming-Na Wen will be back as Fennec Shand, and Robert Rodriguez has joined the production as an executive producer. Rodriguez recently directed an episode of The Mandalorian and it looks like Disney is eager to get him back into the Star Wars universe.
Our best guess is that The Book of Boba Fett will be a non-linear narrative: showing the present-day Boba Fett where we left him at the end of The Mandalorian while flashing back throughout his life to tell his conclusive life story. In fact, maybe Boba himself is writing an actual book or record of some sort to chronicle his life. Whatever the case may be, it is certain that The Book of Boba Fett is going to give fans the canon story of the galaxy’s most feared bounty hunter. We can’t wait to read… er, watch The Book of Boba Fett.
Currently, the show is filming. Temeura Morrison confirmed that production began in Los Angeles in February 2021.
