The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal Addresses Rumors That He’s Demanding More Helmet-Free Time

Pedro Pascal is no stranger to online rumors about behind the scenes activities on The Mandalorian. Over the past several months, there has a persistent rumor popping up that he wants more screen time without his helmet on. Recently, he had the opportunity on a British talk show to address those rumors.
To be fair, it may be a stretch to say that he “had the opportunity.” Pedro Pascal appears caught off guard when the interviewer on The One Show asks him whether he wants more helmet-free time on The Mandalorian. The clip was loaded to Twitter here:
“That is not true actually,” Pascal says. “It’s a really wonderful way of telling the story. It’s always been a very clear creed for the character, and the collaborative process of the whole thing has been, we’ve all been on the same page with this, I think. So I, you know, what I want is for them to make the best show possible, however they get that done.”
It’s no surprise these rumors are happening on a popular television series where the main character’s face is rarely shown. It was a big gamble to back a television series where there were so many rules important to the story requiring the helmet to stay on. Fans have speculated about Pedro Pascal’s feelings on the matter for a long time. They’ve also questioned whether the helmet will stay a central part of the story, or if removing the helmet will mark a major shift in events for The Mandalorian moving forward. And, of course, fans have speculated on smaller things, like why he’s bothering to maintain a mustache.
True to what Pedro Pascal has suggested, The Mandalorian has only shown the actor’s face in moments that were significant to the story. For example, the character raised his mask slightly once so he could eat in Baby Yoda’s presence. It was noted that the character hadn’t eaten in front of Baby Yoda before. This seemed important to point out the growing bond between the pair and also how strict he truly is with the mask.
When injured, Din Djarin raised his mask in front of a droid only after he was reminded that it was allowed in this instance. The injury, and his hesitancy to remove the mask in these circumstances, showed how important the helmet is to Pedro Pascal’s character.
It’s unlikely Pedro Pascal’s statement will stop the spread of rumors about behind-the-scenes activities on the show. When a show becomes this popular, people are more curious. Speculation is already heavy for season three, and season two isn’t over yet. As the series ramps up, there is a lot more room for speculation, especially when it comes to the storylines. One of the more interesting speculations from fans is that Baby Yoda will be the next Star Wars villain.
