First Look At Hailee Steinfeld In Her Superhero Costume
Check out Hailee Steinfeld in her comics-accurate superhero outfit.
Hailee Steinfeld is set to one day, maybe sooner than later, take the lead bow and quiver mantle from Jeremy Renner as the one and only Hawkeye. For now, it appears she’s still in (fictional) training for the role but we have been able to catch a first glimpse of her wearing the official superhero suit of the character. Check it out:
From the pictures, it looks like the show’s creators have stuck pretty close to the outfit we’ve seen in the comics. The light purple tone, long dark hair, and blackstrap crossover patterns are nearly one-for-one from the printed pages. The only thing missing is the purple-tinted glasses, but those might have been removed between takes. It looks like the photos are more candids than actual filmed scenes. Frankly, Hailee Steinfeld looks nearly identical to the illustrated Kate Bishop and the casting appears spot on.
Up until this point, we’d only caught glimpses of Hailee Steinfeld on the Hawkeye set (currently filming in New York City) in street clothes. This is the first time she’s donned the suit for a real look at the character. She stands in stark and rather purposeful contrast to Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye who we know took a darker turn in attitude, approach, and attire during Avengers: Endgame. This show will have him playing the Ronin character, paving the way for Bishop’s Hawkeye. This is likely to avoid naming confusion considering the overlap in characters.
Kate Bishop is the third person to take the name Hawkeye in the comics and the first female in that timeline. In the television version, she is taken under the training wing of Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton. In the comics, Bishop and Barton did have some crossover storylines so this latest show isn’t all that divergent from the source material. Hailee Steinfeld looks like she could be in this role for quite some time first as a young trainee and then eventually leading the series herself.
The 24-year-old Hailee Steinfeld has had a remarkable run so far on the big screen. She stood out in Ender’s Game but also showed off her singing pipes in Pitch Perfect. The real action turn though came in Bumblebee in which she played Charlie Watson. The movie was a hit and signaled a change for the Transformers franchise. Steinfeld was a big part of that success carrying the movie and developing a meaningful and believable relationship with a yellow Volkswagen Beetle. It meant even better things to come and it was a welcome sign when she was originally cast as Bishop.
Disney+’s Hawkeye series is part of Marvel’s Phase Four which will also include shows like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Moon-Knight, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk among others. It’s set to release in the fall of 2021 on the streaming platform. Hailee Steinfeld is helping to lead something of a youth movement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it transitions into new characters and faces. From the first pictures, she looks every bit the part.
