Behind The Scenes Video From Walking Dead Season 3
Despite numerous reservations about the series as a whole, the finale of season two of AMC’s The Walking Dead was very close to what I’ve always wanted out of the show. There was a part where I stood up and cheered. Scared the hell out of my dogs, too. I’m optimistic about the direction the hit zombie show is going, and the next story arc from Robert Kirkman’s comic that they’re getting into is one of my favorites.
Just in case you haven’t been paying attention since the close of season two, AMC has released a new behind the scenes video of the cast and crew filming the first episode of season three.
There’s a little bit of everyone talking in this video. I always like hearing star Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes, speak in his real voice. You forget he’s British in the show.
We get a few nice bits of information embedded in here, and confirmation of a few key facts we already know. Michonne shows up at the end of season two finale, so she’ll be around, which only means good things. She’s the “samurai wielding” character that Lincoln refers to. Again, there is mention of the Governor’s presence. That bit was announced already, though he hasn’t appeared in the series yet. He’s the most brutal, sinister villain the crew of survivors encounters, and lets just say he leaves an indelible mark on some of the main characters. Laurie Holden, who plays Andrea, also hints that there are some additional new characters that haven’t been announced. Here’s hoping Tyreese is among them. He’s an integral part of the upcoming arc, and it will be difficult to pull it off without him.
There is talk of love, life, death, and all manner of other things in this video. The cast looks messy, disheveled, and generally beat up, so you know the mayhem of season two is going to carry over into season three. That’s the general feel you walk away from this clip with, that things are going to continue along the same track as the last few episodes of the second season.
The next step for Rick, Laurie, Carl, Glen, Maggie, Andrea, and company, is that they stumble across a prison that serves as a temporary safe haven, much like Herschel’s farm. When the Governor, the leader of another group of survivors, shows up, all hell breaks loose. Like I said, this arc is one of my favorites in the comic, and it really cements how badass Rick can be when necessity dictates. It’s dark, grim territory, and leaves deep, permanent scars.
