Ray Fisher Being Replaced As Cyborg
According to a new rumor, the Justice League might be getting a new Cyborg, as Ray Fisher could possibly be replaced going forward.

Ray Fisher, who has played Cyborg in both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, has had no problem calling out what he believes to be a toxic on-set environment when filming Justice League. Previously, Fisher has called out Joss Whedon, who came in to direct Justice League when Zack Snyder had to step away from the project, as well as DC Films co-chairs Geoff Johns and Jon Berg. Now, a new rumor states that Fisher might be out of the DC Universe, as the character of Cyborg might be recast.
Originally, it looked as though like everyone else in the Justice League, Cyborg would be getting his own solo film. Yet when Ray Fisher started calling out Whedon and the heads of DC Films, plans for this film were pushed to the back burner. This latest rumor says that the Cyborg film is back in the works at DC, but that Fisher will no longer be involved with the project.
The rumor continues that the key to replacing Ray Fisher will be the upcoming The Flash movie, which will play with the multiverse. It had been rumored that Fisher would appear in The Flash, yet it is unclear if he would do so now if the intention is to replace the actor, nor if Fisher wants to return for what is presumably little more than a cameo.
The big question about this rumor is who wants Ray Fisher replaced as Cyborg? While DC likely wants an actor who won’t cause trouble and draw investigations, firing the actor who pointed out the abuses isn’t a good look. Besides, it’s not as though firing Fisher would make the problem just go away. Ray Fisher isn’t the only member of the Justice League to call out the problematic on-set environment during Justice League, with Aquaman star Jason Momoa backing up Fisher’s claims, saying on Instagram “serious stuff went down.”
But even if Ray Fisher made the choice to leave the role of Cyborg without any outside interference, both Fisher and DC would have to make that abundantly clear to audiences. Fisher would want it to be known that he wasn’t forced out, whereas DC wouldn’t want to look like they were trying to “get rid of the problem” simply by firing Fisher. It seems like a precarious choice to be made by both parties.
WarnerMedia has launched an investigation into Ray Fisher’s claims about the Justice League shoot, although it’s not clear whether Fisher worked with the investigation team, or when findings will be revealed. Both Geoff Johns and Jon Berg have called the allegations false. Yet it seems extremely unlikely that WarnerMedia would fire Fisher based solely on his claims, no matter how disruptive they might be to their further projects.
One would think that such a massive change like recasting an actor in DC’s major superhero team would delay things quite a bit, yet nothing is currently off course. Ray Fisher is reprising his role in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which is debuting next year on HBO Max, and The Flash is still scheduled for a November 4, 2022 release date. Even earlier this year, Fisher was discussing where he’d like to see Cyborg go in the future, so despite his problems with Joss Whedon and DC Films team, he still seems up to continue as Cyborg in future films.
While this original rumor doesn’t state who the source is or where they heard this information from, it seems fairly likely that as for now, Ray Fisher is going to stay on as Cyborg. WarnerMedia seems to be taking these claims seriously, while recasting would likely cause an uproar from fans and possibly even Fisher’s costars. Keep in mind, Warner Bros. has already had to deal with abuse allegations once this year, which ended with the firing of Johnny Depp from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 3, while supposedly giving Amber Heard a more prominent role in the upcoming Aquaman 2.
Even though Ray Fisher is arguably the least famous member of the Justice League, and possibly the member with the least amount of screen time in this world so far, having Fisher leave the project seems like it would do more harm than good for the studio.
