Zack Snyder has been slowly but surely revealing more and more about his upcoming new version of the superhero team-up film Justice League. The reshoots are underway and we can expect Zack Snyder’s Justice League to appear on HBO Max at some point next year. So, we are anxiously awaiting what kind of major differences we will see in this cut of the film. Apparently, one of the things we can expect is a superhero that didn’t even appear in the theatrical cut.
Zack Snyder was part of a stream that was hosted by The Nerd Queens, and during the conversation, he revealed a look at the Martian Manhunter, a character that has been rumored for Zack Snyder’s Justice League. You can see his attempt at showcasing the character art right here:
Yes, it is not the best quality but it is the best look we have gotten of the character. Zack Snyder has revealed in the past that the character of Calvin Swanwick (played by Harry Lennix) has actually been the Martian Manhunter in disguise. It’s assumed that Lennix will also be portraying the Martian form of the character, though he is not yet credited to appear in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. It’s also unclear if his footage already exists or if it will be part of the current reshoots.
The fact that an entire superhero character was cut from the theatrical version of Justice League should give you an inkling as to how different Zack Snyder’s Justice League is going to be. In the comics, the Martian Manhunter is one of the founding members of the Justice League. It makes sense that he should appear in the finished film. However, it is almost certain that he will have a relatively small role to play. Will he be an official member of the team by the movie’s end? We will have to wait and see.
Regardless, it is pretty cool to know that we will be seeing totally new characters in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. There are plenty of criticisms and issues worth raising about this entire undertaking, but it is tough not to get excited at the prospect of seeing more DC superheroes make their first appearance in a feature film. We have seen Martian Manhunter in different television series like the animated Justice League show and Supergirl. Seeing him brought to life in a blockbuster film production should be monumental.
It is likely that we will be getting more reveals like this the closer we get to Zack Snyder’s Justice League finally being unleashed upon the world. Will the official marketing for the film feature Martian Manhunter? Or is he a character that will be kept in the shadows, especially since it sounds like he won’t have a terribly large part to play in the finished product? Only time will tell. We will have to wait and see what other revelations Zack Snyder has in store for us with his giant-sized take on the Justice League. And it is going to be doubly interesting to see how much mainstream audiences even care about it.
