The Wait To See Elizabeth Olsen In WandaVision Is Getting Longer
In what should no longer be a shock or surprise, though most definitely an annoyance, WandaVision may not be hitting the Disney+ platform when it’s supposed to. Rumors are swirling that, like just about everything else in 2020, the Elizabeth Olsen led show is being delayed.
Previously Disney told Marvel fans that WandaVision would hit streaming before the end of 2020. Now it’s becoming increasingly clear that this won’t be the case in some parts of the world. In a chat that has since gone viral, a Disney Plus subscriber learned from a Disney Plus customer service rep that Elizabeth Olsen’s WandaVision is no longer looking at a December premiere but now January 2021.
It should also be noted that this conversation came between the customer and customer service in Disney Plus Latin America. Here is the original tweet: “¡INFORMACIÓN DISNEY+ LATINOAMÉRICA! Hoy me comuniqué con el servicio al cliente de Disney+ sobre el contenido y me dijeron lo siguiente: – Tendremos las 31 temporadas de Los Simpsons el 17 de noviembre. – WandaVision se estrenará en ENERO – Tendremos Avatar y La Novicia Rebelde.”
All this is roughly translated as: “Yes, they are looking to promote the Disney classics, but of course there will be much more content, as previously mentioned, like The Simpsons, we’ll have the Marvel movies and series; WandaVision premieres in January. National Geographic documentaries, etc.”
What we do not know is if they are speaking only of the Latin America countries premiere or if this will also include the United States.
The constant delays from Marvel have begun to put off many fans. Now word comes to us that there is a strong possibility that catching a glimpse of Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff (aka Scarlett Witch) and Paul Bettany as Vision in the later stages of 2020 (which we are nearly at) is no longer a thing.
For those of you keeping count, this is delay number… well at this point, does it even matter anymore?
While Disney maintains their position that they intend to premiere WandaVision in December, there is still no set, specific release date, with December a mere few weeks away.
This puts a major damper on what looks to be a truly different series, a reality blending one that looks to combine the looks of a ‘50s sitcom ala I Love Lucy with the look we have all come to expect when the Marvel Universe. Along with Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, the series will star Kathryn Hahn, Randall Park, who is reprising his role as Jimmy Woo, an FBI agent who looked after Scott Lang in Ant-Man, and Kat Dennings, who is bringing back her role from Thor as Darcy Lewis, the political science major who was friends of Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth).
While there is still concern WandaVision is going to shift to January 2021, Dennings seems to think otherwise, “As far as I know, they’re gonna still try to get it out this year,” she told ET Online. Her comments about the still “planned” premiere timeframe come at about the 1:40 minute mark of the interview. She also backs that up with the fact that she is unsure and that it could change. Dennings still feels like the goal is to get it out in December. That said, there’s been no comment from series stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany.
Thanks to COVID-19 and a general refusal by Hollywood to embrace streaming, 2020 has been a year of schedule changes. Black Widow, The Eternals, and even The Falcon and the Winter Soldier have all been delayed on more than one occasion. Those properties, however, were delayed because they were supposed to show up in movie theaters and there are no movie theaters open. WandaVision on the other hand, was always supposed to be released direct to streaming. There’s no obvious reason to delay the show’s release until 2020. Hopefully this rumor will turn out to be just a rumor and we’ll get to see Elizabeth Olsen back as Scarlett Witch, streaming at home on our TV screens, in just a few weeks.
