Scott Wolf: How He Almost Married Alyssa Milano And Continued A Career After The Party
Scott Wolf was a star of Party of Five and at one point was engaged to Alyssa Milano before calling the marriage off.
Back in the day, actor Scott Wolf was “it.” He was helping lead the series Party of Five, catching many a female eye as Bailey Salinger. And it also introduced fans to folks like Matthew Fox, Neve Campbell, and Jennifer Love Hewitt. Since that time, Wolf has managed to keep his acting career rolling along, though you may not have seen him.
Here’s where Scott Wolf started and where he ended up after Party of Five.
HE STARTED OUT ON SAVED BY THE BELL
One of the first roles Scott Wolf grabbed was on the series Saved by the Bell. Granted, it wasn’t as a series regular or even a series recurring role, though he did appear in eight episodes of the series. Wolf was a major background player with roles like a waiter, a movie patron, or a Glee Club member.
During this time Scott Wolf was also seen on the TV series Kids Incorporated, The Commish, Parker Lewis Can’t Lose, and Evening Shade. He was also seen in the movies All I Want for Christmas, The Skid Kid, Double Dragon, and Teenage Bonnie and Klepto Clyde, an updated take on the true-life criminals Bonnie and Clyde.
SCOTT WOLF WAS ENGAGED TO ALYSSA MILANO
As Party of Five was coming together for Scott Wolf, he was also engaged to Alyssa Milano (Who’s the Boss, Charmed) and it sounded like it was going to be forever. Doesn’t it always in Hollywood? They met on the set of Double Dragon and it was immediate infatuation.
Milano made these comments to PEOPLE at the time, “I knew it the second I met him,” says Alyssa. “I called my morn and told her, ‘This is the man I’m gonna marry.’”
Apparently, Scott Wolf felt the same way, “I could have asked her to marry me two weeks after we met,” he says. “I’m convinced we’re like two halves of the same soul.”
The fact that Milano was a head-turned didn’t go unnoticed by Wolf, “It didn’t hurt that she was incredibly cute,” he said. “Yeah, I was physically attracted to her. I don’t know how you can be a human male and not be.” Alas, it took the couple a year and a half of living together for “forever” to depart.
SCOTT WOLF STARRED IN PARTY OF FIVE BUT THE FIRST CHOICE WAS JERRY O’CONNELL
As it happens with many series and movies, Scott Wolf was not the first choice to play Bailey Salinger on Party of Five. That first choice was Jerry O’Connell (Stand By Me, Jerry Maguire) and he was offered the part. Thankfully for Wolf, O’Connell decided to pass on the role and take the series Sliders instead. Scott then auditioned that same day and was given the part. He became the first member of the show.
The series was a hit. Besides Scott Wolf, Party of Five starred Matthew Fox as Wolf’s older brother, along with Neve Campbell, Lacey Chabert, Scott Grimes, and Jennifer Love Hewitt. It followed the Salinger clan who are forced to grow up quickly after their parents are killed in an auto accident.
Scott Wolf’s character of Bailey was key and included the controversial storyline of a young man who sadly veers into alcoholism before starting his fight for recovery.
The series enjoyed a six-year run and there was a recent reboot on Freeform. This time the Salingers were not invited to the party with the story revolving around an immigrant family. In that one, the parents of the five children were deported back to Mexico, and the children now trying to live on their own in America. It only lasted one season.
HE STARRED ON EVERWOOD AND THE NINE
It has been twenty years since Party of Five ended its run and while it may seem like Scott Wolf has been MIA since that time, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Wolf took his Party talents to other series and TV movies which included Spin City, Jennifer, Picking Up & Dropping Off, and Rubbing Charlie.
Then came Scott Wolf’s next hit series, Everwood. He played Dr. Jake Hartman for three seasons, joining the cast at the beginning of Season 3. It seems his ability to play characters with an addiction problem helped land the role. It turns out his Dr. Jake character was a recovering narcotics addict who, yes, fell off the wagon.
Scott Wolf moved on to other series that afforded him a fair amount of success. He was seen in The Nine, which lasted one season about nine hostage survivors of a bank robbery who meet weekly as they can’t seem to get over their shared experience.
Scott Wolf’s next series was a reboot/remake of the 1983 miniseries V. It co-starred Elizabeth Mitchell and Morena Baccarin. The show tried to answer the question of what life on Earth would be like if aliens came to visit with apparently good intentions but actually had sinister motives.
Scott Wolf continued to make it happen in Hollywood. He has appeared in a few features (Such Good People, 37) while also finding more time on TV. He was on the series Perception for two seasons. Plus, he lent his voice for Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters, BoJack Horseman, and Voltron: Legendary Defender.
He was also seen in the movie Inside Game, playing a drug dealer who allegedly was threatening to kill disgraced NBA referee Tim Donaghy’s family if he didn’t help them with their gambling picks. Donaghy certainly wasn’t telling the truth.
Scott Wolf played another doctor, this time on the TV series The Night Shift. Again, it’s all about addiction. In this one, he was a recurring character until season 3, Wolf played a doctor who was a recovering alcoholic.
SCOTT WOLF IS ON INSTAGRAM
For some, turning 50 is a big deal. It is a life-changing number that one either embraces or falls apart with. For Scott Wolf, he celebrated in the most unusual way, for himself.
Typically, Wolf populates his social media with pictures of his wife, Kelley Marie Limp, and their three children. But as 50 hit, Wolf decided to switch things up by posting a shirtless photo of himself and his ripped abs, celebrating the fact that even at 50, you can still look fit.
He has 114K followers on the social media platform and posts plenty of family pictures. Scott Wolf has three children with wife Kelly Marie Limp.
SCOTT WOLF IS ON NANCY DREW
Most recently, Scott Wolf can be seen on the CW series Nancy Drew playing the young sleuth’s father Carson. This time Wolf is not an addict nor a recovering one, though he is keeping a big secret from his daughter. The show has played out to lukewarm reviews, though it was renewed for a fourth season that looks to premiere sometime in 2023. It will be the final season of the series.
As long as there is an alcoholic doctor, a recovering addict, or even someone thinking about picking up the bottle, Scott Wolf looks to continue to have a future in film and television.
