Tobey Maguire Playing Someone Besides Spider-Man In Spider-Man 3?
Is Tobey Maguire going to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a character that isn't Spider-Man?

Something must be up with Tobey Maguire and the Marvel Cinematic Universe because the rumors about what he might be doing in different Marvel movies do not stop coming in. The newest one? That we’ll be seeing Tobey Maguire play the role of Uncle Ben in Spider-Man 3.
Sort of. Here’s what we know of the rumors so far.
Starting with the most recent and working our way back, scooper DanielRPK (via Twitter) says the studios would like to see Tobey Maguire playing Sam Raimi’s incarnation of Spider-Man in the upcoming Spider-Man 3 movie. It is believed the movie will take place in the multiverse. Both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be seen as their own versions of Peter Parker. In the most recent rumor, the news is that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will see the Tobey Maguire version of Peter Parker and initially think it is Uncle Ben.
This is certainly a touching scene idea. It’s easy enough to picture Tom Holland as Spider-Man pausing for a moment in shock. He believes he is seeing his deceased Uncle Ben. Feelings overcome him. Then there’s the following realization of how Uncle Ben is still part of Peter Parker (in all his multiverse incarnations) and therefore his lessons live on. “With great power comes great responsibility.”
Who isn’t a sap for Uncle Ben? If this rumor is false and Marvel and Sony weren’t planning on this, maybe they should. The idea practically writes itself. The studios might have a hard time finding this particular rumor in the sea of things that are out there though.
In fact, there are enough rumors out there about Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire, and the multiverse to make one wonder if the studios are planting fake storylines just to keep us guessing. It certainly has us talking about the movies and wondering what we’ll see.
Will Spider-Man 3 even be a multiverse story? Is Tobey Maguire actually talking to Marvel about doing anything at all?
There has been plenty of speculation about Tobey Maguire over the years. There have been rumors that he isn’t enthusiastic enough about superhero movies. Others say he is difficult to work with and that’s why we stopped seeing him as much. Honestly, the actor was in so many things for a while there, maybe he just wanted to enjoy his money and have some time to himself with his family.
Now, though, post-divorce and with so much Spider-Man content coming out, it seems we’ll likely see him in something.
One rumor is that he may be in negotiations for a small role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. That’s a fun one!
Another rumor says Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire will be picking up their own Spider-Man TV shows. That’s an interesting idea, but fairly ambitious as rumors go. They are doing so much to open Marvel up to television series though that the possibility is there.
The rumors about Spider-Man 3 certainly don’t stop with Tobey Maguire.
Could Emma Stone be returning as Spider-Gwen? Yes, this could require her to be appearing from an alternate universe. At this point, that is not far fetched with the storylines in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The idea of alternate-universe Spider-Gwen with Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire all in Spider-Man 3 certainly makes one pause.
Good luck to the writers keeping everything straight. That storyboard would need to be tightly organized. I imagine a complicated color-coded system to be involved.
The thing about so many Spider-Man 3 rumors coming at us so fast is that it starts to get disappointing if they’re not true. After all this talk of possibilities, what are we supposed to be happy about if Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire aren’t joining Tom Holland on that movie poster?
When asked point blank whether Spider-Man 3 would include Tobey Maguire, the studio said, “Those rumored castings are not confirmed.”
Which tells us absolutely nothing.
The idea of bringing all three Peter Parkers together for Spider-Man 3 is a fun one. Having Tom Holland see Tobey Maguire as Uncle Ben is a nice touch.
But will it happen? It’s a popular theory that instead of bringing the other actors in for Spider-Man 3, we’ll be seeing them in a Sinister Six film. Saving an attention-grabbing storyline like that would make sense.
Assuming that Spider-Man 3 is a Multiverse story, it would introduce the possibility that other versions of Spider-Man can show up at any time. Then, when there is something big enough to fight, they’re called in. This would make Sinister Six a much bigger deal.
Something worth calling Tobey Maguire in for.
Of course, if they wanted to hint at this Multiverse possibility for the Sinister Six film, they could always bring Tobey Maguire in briefly for a great Uncle Ben moment. It could happen. At this point in the MCU, anything could.
Expect more rumors to come as the still untitled Spider-Man 3 won’t reach theaters until December 17, 2021.
