X-Men Versus Fantastic Four Movie Coming From Marvel
An X-Men vs. Fantastic Four movie could be headed our way.

The X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises have finally made their way back home to Marvel Studios. Now, it is just a matter of waiting and wondering exactly how the Marvel Cinematic Universe will integrate two of their biggest superhero stables into their ever-expanding and interconnected world. If a new report is correct, it sounds like the Marvel Cinematic Universe is planning to have these two groups head towards a big confrontation.
We Got This Covered is saying that they have sources reporting that Marvel Studios wants to take these two franchises and have them build towards an eventual X-Men vs. Fantastic Four feature film. Exactly how that rivalry and showdown would come about is unclear at this point, but We Got This Covered backs up their claim that this is the gameplan for these two franchises moving forward.
If this is true, it sounds like X-Men vs. Fantastic Four could be positioned as either another Avengers-style crossover film or possibly another riff on what Marvel achieved with the film Captain America: Civil War. It would be interesting to see how these two factions would end up warring with each other. Considering that the X-Men are almost always positioned at the center of storylines regarding prejudice and ostracization, would the Fantastic Four be engaged in behavior that would contribute to such behavior?
Fans are certainly eager to see how both the X-Men and the Fantastic Four will make their way into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe but are they as eager to see these two classic teams fight one another? There is certainly precedent for it in the history of Marvel Comics, with a four-issue limited series titled Fantastic Four Versus the X-Men being released in 1987.
Considering how much more time there will be between the introduction of both the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, it isn’t even clear how long it would take for us to get to a showdown film. Both factions have to be properly established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe first, and then they will have to slowly build to a confrontation like the one we saw in Captain America: Civil War. If this proposed versus film is the plan for the future, it could be a very long time before we ever see it.
It’s going to be fascinating to see how the Marvel Cinematic Universe handles such sociopolitically charged characters as the X-Men. The mutant superheroes have always been utilized to represent oppressed outsider groups in society. Exactly how will that manifest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe interpretation of them? And what conflict would even bring them into the crosshairs of the Fantastic Four, a group of adventurous scientists who are often portrayed as having a good standing with the governments of the world?
We will have to wait and see if we will be getting X-Men vs. Fantastic Four, and if we do, it will almost certainly be in the distant future. At the very least, it can’t be any worse than another comic book company’s cinematic versus attempt.
