After being a major part of 2017’s The Last Jedi, Kelly Marie Tran was relegated to little more than a background actor in 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. Thankfully, Kelly Marie Tran has been announced to appear in another Star Wars project as Rose Tico.

Kelly Marie Tran, who played Rose Tico, will reprise her character in Disney+’s upcoming The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special. The new special will reunite Rose with Rey, Finn, Poe, Chewie, and the droids, and as reported by Entertainment Weekly, Kelly Marie Tran will be joined by Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian. Many of The Clone Wars actors will also be returning for the special, including Matt Lanter as Anakin Skywalker, James Arnold Taylor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Tom Kane as Yoda.

The press release for The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special describes the it as: “Directly following the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Rey leaves her friends to prepare for Life Day as she sets off on a new adventure with BB-8 to gain deeper knowledge of the Force. At a mysterious Jedi Temple, she is hurled into a cross-timeline adventure through beloved moments in Star Wars cinematic history, coming into contact with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan and other iconic heroes and villains from all nine Skywalker saga films. But will she make it back in time for the Life Day feast and learn the true meaning of holiday spirit?”

In an interview with Collider just earlier this month, Kelly Marie Tran showed trepidation at the idea of returning as Rose for a theoretical Disney+ series. Tran said of coming back to the Star Wars universe, “I honestly don’t know. It’s so strange. I had so much fun being in that world but I feel like the pieces would have to fall into a perfect little puzzle and everything would have to feel like it’s the right time and the right moment and the right story, like with any other project. But I don’t know.” All the pieces would have to fall into place? Like with a LEGO set? Sneaky, Kelly Marie Tran.

The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special is the first Star Wars-themed holiday event since the notoriously bad 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special, which involved the Star Wars crew trying to visit the Wookiee planet of Kashyyyk to celebrate Life Day. The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special doesn’t seem like it’s hiding its inspiration, considering this new special also centers around Life Day. Expect The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special to feature plenty of inside jokes and references to that terrible holiday classic.

Kelly Marie Tran has been particularly busy lately, having appeared in an episode of Hulu’s new anthology series Monsterland earlier this month. She will also be a new addition to The Croods: A New Age, which is scheduled for release on November 25, 2020. But Kelly Marie Tran’s most exciting upcoming projects all come from Disney. Beyond The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special, she has also been cast in the Disney+ animated series, Monsters at Work, which is set six months after the events of Monsters. Inc, showing the company now getting their energy from children’s laughter instead of screams. Monsters at Work is set for release in 2021.

But earlier this year, Kelly Marie Tran was also announced to be playing the next Disney Princess in 2021’s Raya and the Last Dragon. Tran was a late addition to the project, joining Awkwafina in Disney’s latest animated film, currently planned for release on March 12, 2021.

Disney+ is seems to be really using its streaming platform for plenty of upcoming Star Wars media. In addition to The Mandalorian returning for its second season on October 30, 2020, a new animated series, The Bad Batch is supposed to debut. While they might be far, far away, Disney has also announced a series about Rogue One’s Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna, an Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor, and a female-centric live-action Star Wars series from Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland.

The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special will debut November 17, 2020, on Disney+.
