Stargate Atlantis Reunion For Jason Momoa Happening On Apple TV+

Stargate Atlantis fans have a reason to celebrate. Though we may never get to see John Sheppard and Ronon Dex reunited in a new iteration of the beloved science-fiction franchise, fans will at least be able to see actors Joe Flanigan and Jason Momoa share the screen once again.
The Apple TV+ series See is resuming production on its second season after having to shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Stargate Atlantis alumni Jason Momoa is the lead actor in the streaming show, and Joe Flanigan recently mentioned on his Cameo page that he will be flying to Toronto to resume shooting a part in the second season of See. Of course, Flanigan will be quarantined in a hotel room for two weeks to make sure he is not infected with the coronavirus before he goes to start production.
Jason Momoa and Joe Flanigan became very good friends once they began shooting Stargate Atlantis together, and the two have maintained that friendship all these years later. It would not be surprising to learn that Momoa might have even had a hand in getting Flanigan a role in this new season of See. It is unclear exactly what role Flanigan will be playing – as of this writing, the show is not yet listed on the actor’s IMDb page – or how substantial the role will be. Is he coming on for a one-off appearance or will he be a more substantial member of the supporting cast? At this point, it is a total mystery.
The Stargate Atlantis reunion should be a joyous one for fans. The series has maintained a loyal cult following over the years and this will be a very fun way to see these two together again. And that is not the only surprising addition to the cast of See in its second season. Dave Bautista will also be joining the production. Bautista and Momoa will also be sharing the screen in the upcoming epic adaptation of the sci-fi classic, Dune. Unfortunately, we are all going to have to wait a pretty long time to see that pairing.
Stargate Atlantis was the first spinoff series from the popular Stargate SG-1, which was itself a spinoff of the 1994 blockbuster sci-fi action film, Stargate. The last iteration of the franchise was Stargate Universe, though that series ended up getting abruptly canceled before it could close out its intended storyline. Fans have been eagerly anticipating any news about a potential revival of the franchise, but nothing has been able to manifest since Stargate Universe had its run ended back in 2011.
However, there may be a reason to remain hopeful that the beloved property is on its way to being resurrected. We recently heard that a new series was closer than ever to getting the green light. And with Momoa and Flanigan reuniting on a different TV show, there is reason to speculate that something significant could be in the works. Stargate Atlantis will also be celebrating its 25th anniversary next year. It would not be surprising to hear that something special is in store for the dedicated fans.
Even if nothing does come out of this, it will still be pleasant to see Jason Momoa and Joe Flanigan show up on the small screen together. The two actors were big fan favorites during their tenure on Stargate Atlantis. Could it be possible that some sort of inside joke or Easter egg reference could be made in See when their characters cross paths? Heck, will their characters even meet one another? It would be quite a waste to have both Jason Momoa and Joe Flanigan in your television show and not have them meet up at least once. If they don’t, you can bet that the Stargate faithful will voice their opinions about such a misstep.
The second season of See will resume production on October 14 and plans to shoot all the way through March 2021. The second season is expected to drop on Apple TV+ in 2021 as well. We hope the production and everyone involved can stay safe during such unprecedented and dangerous times. And we hope we can look forward to seeing the closest thing we might get to a legitimate Stargate Atlantis reunion.
