Rick Moranis was viciously punched on the streets of New York City this week. The unprovoked attack was captured on video and police are actively searching for the assailant.
You can watch the assault on Rick Moranis take place in this tweet that was posted by the New York Police Department’s Crime Stoppers account:
The attack on Rick Moranis took place on the Upper West Side on Thursday, October 1 around 7:30 AM. Moranis was walking south on on Central Park West near West 70th Street. This was only a few steps away from his apartment building. A stranger approached Moranis, slugged him, knocked him to the ground, and proceeded to walk away. No information was given as to the nature or reason for the attack.
Rick Moranis reported suffering pain in his right hip, head, and back. New York Police Department officers said that Moranis had gone to a hospital for a medical evaluation. It was after that when Moranis reported the assault to police officers at the 20th precinct. The suspect fled the scene on foot and is still at large as of Friday morning.
This is absolutely devastating for fans of Rick Moranis. The 67-year-old actor has maintained a loyal cult following thanks to his appearance in memorable films such as Little Shop of Horrors, Ghostbusters, Spaceballs, and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Moranis was recently confirmed to return for a brand new entry in the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids franchise. It is unclear exactly how serious the injuries from this attack were and if they will prevent Moranis from returning to work.
The return of Rick Moranis to the film world was a momentous one because of his decision to leave the spotlight years ago. After the death of his wife, he decided to focus on raising his children instead of acting. Eventually, Moranis did pop back up in the entertainment landscape when he released a Grammy-nominated country album, The Agoraphobic Cowboy, back in 2005. Moranis followed that humorous and heartfelt album with another album titled My Mother’s Brisket & Other Love Songs in 2013.
Hopefully, Rick Moranis will make a full recovery from this horrific attack. The 67-year-old actor deserves one last glory run in the spotlight before he retires for godd. The idea that anyone would want to harm Mr. Moranis for any reason seems unthinkable. It is especially distressing as the attack seems utterly unprovoked. We sincerely hope that the assailant is found, arrested, and a motive can be discerned.
