The Rock’s Black Adam Movie Has Cast Hawkman
Here's who will play Hawkman in The Rock's Black Adam film.

In setting up the long-in-development Black Adam film, star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has said his entry into the DC Universe would include introducing The Justice Society of America. With this newest piece of casting news, it looks as though we finally have a face for one of the first members of the JSA.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Aldis Hodge is currently in talks to join The Rock’s Black Adam as Hawkman. At the recent DC FanDome event, a piece of concept art confirmed that the Justice Society of America would be a part of the cast, featuring Atom Smasher, Doctor Fate, Cyclone, and Hawkman. The Hollywood Reporter also broke the news that To All The Boys I Loved Before star Noah Centineo would be playing Atom Smasher, leaving two more spots open on the JSA.
Cinema Blend theorizes that Hodge will play the Carter Hall iteration of Hawkman, as he was one of the founding members of the Justice Society of America. Carter is the reincarnated Egyptian prince Khufu, who learns about his past life while in the modern-day. Hawkman dons ancient armor, wings, and a harness made with the Nth metal that lets him fly. This should make him a formidable ally or opponent for The Rock’s Black Adam.
Hodge is already having a notable 2020, appearing in The Invisible Man remake and he will soon play Jim Brown in Regina Hall’s theatrical debut, One Night in Miami. Hodge’s first role was in 1995’s Die Hard with a Vengeance and since then has featured notable roles in the television series Leverage, Underground and TURN: Washington’s Spies. In recent years, Hodge has appeared in Straight Outta Compton, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Hidden Figures and Clemency.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been attached to Black Adam since 2014, where he also hinted at possibly being involved in the Shazam film. In 2019, Jaume Collet-Serra was announced to direct Black Adam, reuniting Collet-Serra and Johnson after Disney’s Jungle Cruise film. Black Adam will be written by Adam Sztykiel, who previously worked with Johnson on 2018’s Rampage. Sztykiel has also written 2010’s Due Date, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul and this year’s Scoob. It’ll be curious to see if Sztykiel’s penchant for films that lean younger might be a hint at what’s to come with Black Adam.
DC’s Extended Universe is about to grow significantly over the next few years, as The Rock’s Black Adam is just one of many projects the studio has in the works. Prior to Black Adam’s release will be Wonder Woman 1984, scheduled for release December 25, 2020, and James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad on August 6, 2021.
Black Adam is currently in pre-production, but aiming for a December 22, 2021 release date. Following Black Adam will be The Flash on June 3, 2022, Shazam! Fury of the Gods on November 4, 2022, and Aquaman 2 on December 16, 2022. No word yet on whether or not The Rock’s Black Adam will appear in Shazam! Fury of the Gods or if any of the members of The Justice Society of America will also appear in subsequent DCEU films.
