With Hollywood having shut down, as have many other businesses, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ripple effects it has had on the movie-making industry may be felt for quite some time. Thankfully though, there are some projects out there that were scheduled to premiere so far in the future that the pandemic probably won’t affect them at all. Marvel’s Hawkeye series is one of those projects.
HAWKEYE’S TITLE
With states slowly opening back up, it is the same for California and Hollywood. Movie productions are about to kick-off and production on the Hawkeye series is ramping up.
Reportedly, while shooting in the United States, Hawkeye will operate under the name of Anchor Point. If you’re curious as to why Anchor Point, they are using that name because an anchor point refers to the spot on one’s face that your hand or bowstring should touch when pulling back at a full draw.
It’s unclear whether that will also be the final title of the series. So for now, we’re sticking with calling Marvel’s series Hawkeye.
JEREMY RENNER AS HAWKEYE
For those of us who have been living under a rock, not just during the pandemic but for a long time, Hawkeye is a member of Marvel’s Avengers. Clint Barton, as he is known to friends and family, is an expert marksman and fighter who uses his uncanny talents to work for S.H.I.E.L.D. In the Avengers films, of which Hawkeye has been part of six, he has been portrayed by actor Jeremy Renner and Renner will continue the role in the upcoming Disney Plus series, Marvel’s Hawkeye.
Renner’s Hawkeye first shot onto the screen in an uncredited role in the 2011 movie Thor. He was then seen in The Avengers (2012), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), and Avengers: Endgame (2019) where he was part of a highly emotional opening sequence.
HAILEE STEINFELD AS KATE BISHOP
If Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton is the lead in Hawkeye then the character of Kate Bishop is going to be his co-lead. There’s even talk that Baton may eventually be phased out, so that Kate Bishop can lead the show solo. So casting her is a pretty big deal.
Several different names have been circling around the part of Kate Bishop but now we know for certain that actress Hailee Steinfeld (Bumblebee, Pitch Perfect) has been officially cast as Kate Bishop.
For the most part, Steinfeld has remained mum about whether she’s in the Hawkeye series, as has Renner. Recently though, Steinfeld opened up a little about the joining the cast. She spoke about it, briefly, during an interview on SiriusXM’s Morning Mash Up. “You know, right now, I will tell you that music is where my head is at. That’s what I’m focused on… that is what is occupying my brain at the moment.”
Here is the clip of Steinfeld attempting to avoid the question.
And here’s a clip showing Hailee Steinfeld filming on the set of Hawkeye as Kate Bishop…
MARVEL’S HAWKEYE SERIES PLOT
Speaking of the role Steinfeld would occupy, if she’s cast in Marvel’s Hawkeye series she’ll play Kate Bishop. Fans may know the name as the character Clint Barton trains to become another Hawkeye.
Renner seemed to acknowledge this fact when he said Bishop is “the best Hawkeye… and I get to teach someone else how to be a superhero without superpowers.” In the comics, Bishop is actually the third character to take on the Hawkeye name and is also a member of Marvel’s Young Avengers team.
Marvel president Kevin Feige gave a little more detail on the Hawkeye series at San Diego Comic-Con by confirming the series will also explore Hawkeye’s time as Ronin, a persona he took on during the time between Infinity War and Endgame.
HAWKEYE SERIES PREMIERE DATE
Obviously with Marvel’s Hawkeye series set so far on the future calendar, Disney Plus has not given a firm premiere date. Marvel’s slate has a few movies and series set (Black Widow, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, and Loki to name a few) before Hawkeye will make his appearance.
We do know it’s about to begin shooting. The series is going into production, shooting in Atlanta at Tyler Perry’s studios there. The move to Atlanta is because of California’s extreme lockdown measures in the pandemic. Like so many businesses, Hollywood is being forced to abandon that state as a matter of survival.
Right now, the best guess we have is that Marvel’s Hawkeye series may appear in the Fall of 2021. What we do know is that Hawkeye is part of Marvel’s Phase 4, could well be the end of that phase and would take Marvel fans into Phase 5, which is said to include Black Panther 2 as well as Captain Marvel 2.
