Ender’s Game Lets You To Witness Mazer Rackham’s Heroics Firsthand Plus 6 New Character Posters
It’s nice to have news about Ender’s Game that has nothing to do with Orson Scott Card’s stance on homosexuality. You may have forgotten there was an actual movie to talk about, a movie that just so happens to be all over San Diego Comic-Con at the moment, so there’s a lot to talk about. Summit has set up big fan experience for those attending the geek-centric gathering, but the news on the Ender front is far from over. For example, we now have this sparkly new clip from the film, as well as six more character posters.
In the future of Ender’s Game, the world has survived an attack by an alien race known as Formics. It wasn’t an easy battle, and one the powers that be are none too keen see repeated. As a result, young kids who show specific military aptitude are recruited to attend Battle School in hopes of finding a future leader with an as yet unknown perspective and strategy. They’re looking for the next Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), the hero of the first conflict. His ability to approach the enemy from a different angle, one they didn’t expect, was the only thing that saved the day for the human race.
In this first clip from the film, you get a chance to witness some of Rackham’s heroics firsthand. He’s up there zipping around in his fighter jet, looking very much like those ominous, black-helmeted Russian pilots from Top Gun. Maybe if we get lucky he’ll flip the bird at one of the aliens. This whole video actually feels like that Tom Cruise fighter jock actioner mixed with a little bit of Independence Day for good measure. Although the claw-like alien ships look a lot like Nero’s destructive vessel from J.J. Abrams’ rebooted Star Trek franchise.
These posters give you up close and personal greeting with most of the key characters from Ender’s Game. Seriously, you’re all up in their business; you could probably smell what they had for lunch. Let’s hope they aren’t scratch and sniff. There’s Asa Butterfield’s Andrew “Ender” Wiggin, who may be the youngest recruit, but is also the most strategically gifted. Hailee Steinfeld plays Petra Arkanian, Ender’s best friend at Battle School, who is not only his ally and confidant, but helps him keep things in perspective. Then there’s the staff of the Battle School, Colonel Hyram Graff (Harrison Ford), Major Gwen Anderson (Viola Davis), and Sergeant Dap (Nonso Anozie). And last but not least, there’s a better view of Kingsley’s Rackham, the tattoo-faced, half-Maori warrior and savior of Earth.
Ender’s Game, controversy and all, opens November 1 in 3D and IMAX.
