In this crime thriller series, Cumberbatch will join such stars as Gaby Hoffman, whom you might remember as Karin Kinsella in the eponymous family fantasy drama film Field of Dreams from 1989, and McKinley Belcher III, known as Arlong the Saw in Netflix’s live-action One Piece adaptation, and Jeff Hephner from Interstellar.

Eric comes from the mind of acclaimed Welsh playwright Abi Morgan. For those unfamiliar, Abi has a rich portfolio that includes the British TV series Sex Traffic and The Hour and the big-screen creations The Iron Lady and Shame, among others. Morgan spoke about pitching Eric to Netflix, saying, “When I pitched the idea of a New York puppeteer on a quest to find his missing son, with a 7ft blue monster in tow, it’s to Netflix’s eternal credit that they jumped on board.

In addition to Morgan, there is quite a talented team behind the limited series. Eric is being executively produced by Cumberbatch, then Jane Featherstone, Lucy Dyke, and Lucy Forbes. Furthermore, Forbes will be in the director’s chair for all six episodes, and Holly Pullinger is credited as the series producer.

Benedict Cumberbatch’s portrayal of Sherlock Holmes on small screens deserved words beyond praise, with his acting talent outshining modern-day London. Now it seems that we will witness another career-defining performance in Eric when the thriller drama, unlike any other, hits Netflix on May 30. The series isn’t your typical crime thriller as it explores several genres, including fantasy, throughout its six-episode run.
