Ian McKellen Rushed To Hospital After Fall Off Stage

Beloved stage and film actor Ian McKellen has been taken to a hospital after falling off the stage in a production of Player Kings. Not much is known about his injuries or status after the accident, but he left the theater in an ambulance. The West End performance was canceled for the night following his injury. 

Fell During A Scene

Ian McKellen fell off the front of the stage during a scene in the play involving the Prince of Wales and Henry Percy. Staff quickly moved to aid the actor, who was heard crying out in pain by audience members. Shortly after, the audience was informed that the play would end prematurely and they were ushered out of the theater. 

During Player Kings

The accident happened during a production of Player Kings, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Henry IV. Ian McKellen plays Sir John Falstaff in the production, which was being performed at the Noel Coward Theater when the actor suffered his injury. The show is scheduled for shows throughout June and July at various theaters around the UK, though whether they will include the prolific actor may now depend on the severity of his injuries.

While many know him for his movie roles, Ian McKellen is an established stage actor. He rose to prominence in the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theater in the UK.

His success in the UK gave him opportunities outside of the country including a Broadway production of Anton Chekhov’s Wild Honey and a global tour of Richard III.

Ian McKellen is also well known for his movie roles, which include multiple blockbuster hits. He played Gandalf in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films and the villain turned anti-hero Magneto in several X-Men movies.

In addition to being an integral part of those blockbuster franchises, he’s performed in numerous film adaptations of Shakespeare productions and many other films across many genres from The Last Action Hero to Gods and Monsters. 

Many Accolades For His Acting

Despite being best known for his work in film and theater, Ian McKellen also has numerous credits as a television actor.

He starred in the 1966 TV adaptation of David Copperfield and had various roles on TV in the UK throughout his career from recurring roles to cameos. He’s also appeared in guest roles on American TV shows like Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons. 

Ian McKellen has received various accolades for his acting. He’s been nominated for Best Leading Actor and Best Supporting Actor awards at the Oscars, in addition to five Emmy nominations and five BAFTA nominations. He’s also won a Tony, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Laurence Olivier Award.

The 85-year-old actor is an internationally beloved performer and his accident is sure to worry fans all around the world. He has been a prolific actor, managing to keep his stage acting and film career going for decades with little sign of slowing down, making this accident all the more shocking.

Hopefully, Ian McKellen’s injuries are minor and he’ll be back to delighting audiences with his incredible talents again soon.
