Demon Slayer remains one of the most popular modern anime series, and for good reason: the combination of great characters, killer action, and slick animation makes every season more captivating than the one before. Now that we only have one episode left to go this season, fans have been wondering what to expect next from this hit franchise. Now, it looks like fans can expect the upcoming Infinity Castle arc to be adapted into a trilogy of theatrical films.

The Announcement

This Demon Slayer news comes to us courtesy of a very surprising place: the annual Jump Victory Carnival event in Japan. As the name implies, this event is all about celebrating the colorful manga characters and stories published in the popular Shonen Jump publication.

Attendees get special souvenirs, and one user took to Twitter to post what appears to be a real scoop regarding Demon Slayer.

The product itself isn’t that mind-blowing–it’s just a fan with colorful Demon Slayer branding on it. However, the fan has a small message in Japanese written on its bottom left corner. When translated, the text reads “theatrical version of the three-part series ‘Infinite City.’”

The Demon Slayer anime is, of course, adapted from the hit manga of the same name. The translated message seems to be referring to the Infinity Castle arc of the manga. This is the final arc, and it looks like it will be adapted into three films instead of a traditional season.

What is this arc all about, though? Everything comes to a head when the Demon Slayer Corps has their final confrontation with Muzan and his Upper Moons. Our heroes are more skilled than ever before, but they must put those skills to the ultimate test by facing demons far stronger and more cunning than they have ever managed to defeat.

While these films have not been officially announced yet, it seems to be a done deal: the Jump Victory Carnival website posted a picture of the fan before taking it down, seemingly because they realized what a major secret they just revealed. Part of what makes this reveal so stunning is that, after season 1 proved to be such a hit, we have always gotten a Demon Slayer movie ahead of the next season. At most, fans were expecting only one more movie, so it’s both surprising and exciting to discover that we’ll be getting an entire trilogy.

A Trilogy Of Movies Is The Best of Both Worlds

At the risk of sounding like fanboys, this is more than most Demon Slayer fans could dream of for the final arc. The fandom has long pestered animation studio Ufotable to adapt the Infinity Castle arc into a movie. Adapting it into three movies means that we could get the best of both worlds: all the quality and production value of a feature film along with enough runtime to adapt the best moments from the manga.

The Movies Are Sure To Make Bank

As much as the fandom is looking forward to this trilogy, we imagine that Ufotable is similarly hyped. After all, the Demon Slayer: Mugen Train film from 2020 earned over $450 million worldwide, making it the biggest anime in movie history (sorry, Dragon Ball fans, this is one fight Goku couldn’t win). It’s unclear whether a trilogy of films can take this franchise even higher, but after seeing that previous box office, we’re never betting against Tanjiro’s theatrical success ever again.
